Leaving on a Jet Plane
I'm headed to Washington, DC, tomorrow for several days and several purposes. I'll blog as the week progresses.
Sometimes the travel gets a bit crazy. For instance...
Last week I was in western Montana for a strategy meeting of Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness. This is a great group of folks tirelessly working to protect this popular spot in the Panhandle. Monday I was again in the north for a gathering of conservationists involved in the Clearwater Basin Collaborative.
The Clearwater collaborative is a broad-based endeavor very similar to the Owyhee Initiative that led to the first Idaho wilderness bill in 29 years. ICL's objective in the Clearwater is to protect an ambitious suite of wilderness areas.
And now off to DC. First I'll attend the yearly State Environmental Leadership Conference where close to 40 groups working in state legislatures from around the nation gather to learn from each other.
For all of next week, I'll be meeting with the Idaho congressional delegation and visiting with key committee staff and some national group colleagues. I'll be there to help move the Boulder-White Clouds, deal with some off-road vehicle issues, and more. I'll post blog entries through the week to give a little sense of the DC scene and ICL's place in it.
Today's blog title is a little homage to Mary Travers who most famously sang this song with Peter, Paul and Mary. A great anti-war activist and singer, she recently passed away and just yesterday was celebrated in a tribute attended by Bill Clinton, Pete Seeger, and many others.
