Not the river sort, but the official sort of Otter visited the proposed Pend d'Oreille Bay Trail Tuesday.

Gov. Butch Otter spent a sunny hour on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille learning about the efforts of the cities and the county to connect the communities of Sandpoint, Ponderay and Kootenai with a shoreline trail corridor.

City, county and state officials, property owners and trail advocates (including ICL) gathered to explain how they are pulling together to create safe access to the waterfront and a non-motorized path serving the communities on Lake Pend Oreille's northwest shore.

Otter praised the efforts, calling it a model for inter-jurisdicational cooperation.

"You have my blessing," he said. But if it's money that's needed, "we'll have to talk," joked the governor.
