Learn about Idaho bills on natural gas, wolves and energy. You can also show your opposition to HB 464, a bill about the oil and gas industry.

We are halfway through the legislative session, the rules are pretty much wrapped up, most of the bills have been introduced, and some budget issues are looming.

Natural Gas Industry Proposal

HB 464, brought by the Idaho Petroleum Council, passed the House and is expected to be heard in the Senate Resources and Environment Committee Wednesday, Feb 29. The bill would cast doubt over what local governments can regulate, and it would allow the industry to use injection wells for oil and gas production. Show your opposition to this bill.

Wolves

We oppose SB 1305, which would allow the killing of wolves (that have taken livestock) by any means necessary and without state oversight. Proposals like this increase the likelihood that Idaho will lose the authority to manage wolves. If that happens, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service may take over management again. An Idaho Statesman article provides more information.

Energy Efficiency

A bill (HB 485) to expand tax deductions for energy efficient upgrades to homes was approved by the House Revenue and Tax Committee. Deductions for energy efficiency investments are good policy because they create jobs while saving money on energy bills and reducing power plant pollution.

Thanks to those of you who attended our legislative reception—we all had a great time! Check our Facebook page for photos!
