This month, as part of our Tour of the Reserves series, we feature the Oregon Trail Reserve. This site was made a reserve with the goal of preserving remnants of the Oregon Trail and educating the public about this valuable historic resource. With spectacular views of the Barber Valley and the Boise foothills, this reserve is a true treasure. Come learn more and explore with us!
The city of Boise, Foothills Learning Center and ICL are offering this exciting year-long adventure series, Tour of the Reserves, to help Boiseans get to know your backyard. Some months include short hikes, others include walking presentations, historical stories or acoustic concerts.
The city of Boise’s foothills open space includes 11 reserves. In total, the city manages roughly 4,000 acres and 40 miles of trails within its reserves, all differing in elevation and accessibility. The reserve ecosystems include riparian habitat, grassland and alpine forests, and they are home to creatures large and small.
