You start to gain elevation on a series of switchbacks. At 2 miles, the trail fades slightly, but keep to the southeast, and it will become distinct again.
Soon you reach the summit, from which you can see Alturas, Perkins, Pettit, and Yellow Belly Lakes. Enjoy the amazing views of the White Clouds and Castle Peak.
Directions
From Ketchum, drive north on Highway 75 for 36 miles until you reach Pole Creek Road. Turn right on this road, drive another 2.5 miles, and take a left when you reach Valley Road. In another 5 miles, you reach a turnoff marked by a sign to Horton Peak Lookout. Turn right at the turnoff and park on the left side of the dirt road.
