Farm in Real Life
Don't just grow a farm on Facebook.
If you use Facebook for social networking, you will likely join me in wondering: what's the deal with farming on Facebook? Why send a virtual petunia or cherry tree when you can really plant these items and watch them grow?
I have become involved in a community farm this year, joining 25 others in farming about 2 acres. This week we planted potatoes, fava beans and snap peas. It feels great to be involved in such a community and have such a wonderful purpose, growing food with friends and eating it later.
Sharing the labor and the cost, our little group is finding this experience to be gratifying on many levels. A lot of research, actual science, has shown that contact with nature is good for people. Go figure.
