Local Market Offers Taters Galore
Six Rivers Community Market in the panhandle is the place to go for a variety of potatoes.
For our family Thanksgiving gathering, I offered to bring and mash Idaho potatoes. I considered—briefly—heading to the local grocery store and purchasing russets grown in southern Idaho.
Then I remembered that North Idaho potatoes are available online through Six Rivers Market. I logged on and lo and behold, what a bounty of taters!
Peruvian purple fingerings, Russian banana fingerlings, German butterball (all grown practically in my backyard!), Bintje, yellow Finn, Yukon gold and your regular red, white and blue varieties abound. Six Rivers offers 34 different potatoes to choose from—all grown by local farmers!
So, this Thanksgiving I'll be thankful for the abundance of local food and the opportunity to support local farmers.
And my choice? Yellow Finn potatoes from Ronnigers Farm—they sounded good for mashing...
