A study from Oregon shows consumption driving greenhouse gas pollution.

A recent study in Portland, Oregon, concluded that transportation and energy were not the largest sources of greenhouse gases in the Oregon Metro area. The most pollution came from making, moving, and throwing away all the items we consume.

Managing waste, manufacturing products and food, and distributing goods accounted for 48% of the greenhouse gases in the Portland area.

Granted, we need food and products to live healthy and happy lives—but do we need so much? You have probably heard the statement that it would take 7 earths to fill our consumption needs. Maybe it's time to reevaluate.

Idaho has plenty of secondhand clothing and furniture stores. Purchasing secondhand means you're saving an item from the landfill and likely reducing the need for new manufactured items that cause pollution.

Every little bit counts. Look into your secondhand options next time you need a new outfit, new book, new skis, or a new couch. Hey, it would be new to you!
