The Three R's Plus P?

— filed under:

Everyone's heard of the three Rs but you may not have heard of the P. It's called precycling, and here are examples of how to precycle.

Everybody knows the three Rs—reduce, reuse, and recycle. But you may not know about the P—precycling. Precycling is about preventing waste by being conscious of what you buy and the packaging it comes in. It also means reusing items as much as possible to avoid having to buy something.

Here are some examples:

  • When buying things like dishwasher soap and laundry detergent, purchase in concentrated forms. You use less and it will last longer. Don’t forget to recycle or reuse the container after its empty.
  • STOP JUNK MAIL! It’s super annoying and generates a lot of paper waste. Learn how.
  • Make your lunch greener by avoiding plastic baggies to store food. Reuse them when you can or make your own stylish, reusable sandwich bag instead!
