Cut back on energy costs in the office with these nifty tips!
We’ve talked about conserving energy at home, but how is it done in the workplace? It’s not too different, but here are tips to help you get started.
- Lighting makes up about 29% of total energy in the average office. So replace those old-fashioned halogen or fluorescent lights with compact fluorescent light bulbs! Be sure to dispose of CFLs correctly. Also, think about getting occupancy sensors; they’re inexpensive and easy to install.
- About 39% of office energy comes from heating and cooling. Turn air/heat off at night or when the office is empty. Adjusting the temperature by 1 to 2 degrees helps too. If you can further increase to 3 or 4 degrees, you can save 10%.
- Turn the water temperature down. If you knock back the temperature of the water heater just 10 degrees, you can save 6% of water-heating energy.
