The Green Standard
Powering our workplace accounts for over 50% of greenhouse gases in the country. Small changes in your operating procedures can have huge payoffs.
Wow! The energy required to power our work spaces accounts for over 50% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. So small changes in your everyday operating procedures can have huge payoffs.
But how do you make your work place greener? Lots of ways.
- Get rid of phantom energy—Unplug appliances when not in use. That little light on the office coffeemaker pulls energy from the grid. When you aren't making coffee, save energy and turn it off.
- Use recycled paper—There is no reason why offices shouldn't be using recycled paper for everything from printed documents to letterhead. Talk to your supplier about your recycled paper options.
- Be creative and spread the word—Every office is different. Be creative and look for areas where you can be conservation minded. Reduce the waste from your office, turn out lights at night, and talk to your supervisor about creating incentives for carpooling or biking to work.
It is astonishing what a little initiative can do. So look at success stories of people who have made a difference.
