Pend d'Oreille Bay Trail takes shape
The Pend d'Oreille Bay Trail would connect the communities of Sandpoint, Ponderay and Kootenai to each other and the lake.
The proposed Pend d'Oreille Bay Trail is a scenic greenway that would connect the communities of Sandpoint, Ponderay and Kootenai to each other and to the lake along one of the last undeveloped stretches of Lake Pend Oreille shoreline.
Idaho Conservation League has been working with the Friends of the Pend d'Oreille Bay Trail, the cities, Bonner County and Department of Environmental Quality to make this dream trail a reality.

The project took a big leap forward in the fall of 2011 when the city of Sandpoint purchased the first of four waterfront parcels that stretch along nearly a mile of shoreline. ICL is helping the Friends of the Pend d'Oreille Bay Trail with a capital campaign to raise $400,000 to purchase the fourth parcel.
The National Park Service's Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program worked with the project partners to create a conceptual design for the trail that will help guide redevelopment of the area under an EPA Brownfield's grant. A coalition of the cities, county and DEQ was awarded the $650,000 environmental assessment grant in 2009.
Check out our slideshow on a design workshop that helped develop ideas for the concept plan. Our current focus is implementing the plan, which was completed in fall of 2010, and assisting in the capital campaign.
