Protecting Idaho's wild places is part of ICL's core mission.

Looking for great places to get out and enjoy Idaho?

Idahoans are lucky: We are still free to enjoy large, pristine natural areas that are important both to Idaho and the rest of America.

These are the places where generations of Idahoans have gone to hunt, fish, camp, hike, and spend time with their families. They are also the sources of clean water, world-class fish and wildlife, and the peace and quiet that are the envy of the world. But change is coming.

Idaho grew by 250,000 people in the last decade—essentially adding a second Boise and another Pocatello. We need to think ahead if we're going to keep Idaho's most special places as they are so that future generations can enjoy the same wild places we do today.

That's why ICL is working hard to protect the Clearwater backcountry, Selkirk Crest, Pioneer Range and Scotchman Peaks as formal wilderness areas. Once these areas are overrun with crowds, traffic and industry, there's no going back.

Deciding which areas should be wilderness is a decision not to be made lightly. So ICL works with Idahoans from all walks of life—hunters, anglers, industry, and motorized recreationists—to create a future for our national forests that benefit everyone.

During the summer months, ICL offers hikes throughout the state. Find a hike near you and get out to enjoy Idaho's wild places.
