Groups Sign Document Pledging Collaboration on Clearwater, Nez Perce Forest Management
An agreement will improve communication and consideration of broadly supported forest management activities.
Members of a collaborative effort to find common ground on management of the Clearwater and Nez Perce national forests signed a memorandum of understanding at a meeting in Lewiston Wednesday.
The document pledges agreement between the group and the Forest Service and spells out how cooperation will be carried out. It was approved by the group that includes local government officials and representatives from the timber industry, environmental groups and recreation groups.
The agreement came on the two-year anniversary of the effort organized by U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo.
The MOU still has to be approved by the Forest Service and then signed by the two co-chairmen of the collaborative group - Dale Harris of Missoula, Mont., and Alex Irby of Orofino.
