Hike North Idaho with the Idaho Conservation League

SANDPOINT – The annual summer hike series with the Idaho Conservation League kicks off June 26 with a hike to the popular Harrison Lake in the heart of the Selkirk Crest.

Whether you are new or native to the Panhandle, this hike series is a great way to explore and gain new appreciation for the Idaho Selkirk Mountain’s spectacular peaks, lakes, streams and wildlife.

The eight hikes in the series vary in difficulty – from an easy day hike to Roman Nose Lakes to a four-day backpack trip through the remote Salmo-Priest area of Upper Northwest Idaho.

Idaho Conservation League is teaming up with Selkirk Outdoor Leadership and Education to offer two special hikes this summer that include on-site Leave No Trace workshops. Learn to travel light on the land and recreate responsibly during a hike with certified instructors to Roman Nose Lakes or Harrison Lake.

For those interested in exploring the Idaho Selkirks independently, the Idaho Conservation League recently published a handy American Selkirks hiking map. Maps are free and available at visitor’s centers in Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry, at Outdoors Experience in Sandpoint or by ordering online at http://bit.ly/selkirksmap.
