Learn How to Behave in Avalanche Terrain
With avalanche risk high in the backcountry, you can learn how to behave in avalanche terrain. Attend this informative event in Ketchum.
With avalanche risk high in the back-country, the Idaho Conservation League and the Elephant's Perch will host an evening of avalanche awareness and a slide show. Local experts will offer important information on how to behave in avalanche terrain on Thursday, Jan. 14 from 6 - 8 p.m. The event will be held at the Elephant's Perch in Ketchum.
The evening is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
Director of the Forest Service National Avalanche Center, Doug Abromeit, will discuss the anatomy of an avalanche, winter travel in avalanche terrain, safety, and what to bring along to be prepared should something unforeseen happen. Lee Melly, a local recreationist and back-country skier will discuss his real-life experiences in avalanche terrain.
The evening will end on a lighter note with a slide show of spectacular photos taken by back-country recreation manager for the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, Ed Cannady. Cannady is famous for his photographs of the wild Sawtooths and Boulder-White Clouds.
