One of ICL’s priorities is to work toward a coal-free energy future in our state by weaning Idaho’s utilities from coal. Right now, Avista customers, many who live in North Idaho, receive about 9% of their energy from Colstrip, one the coal plants featured in the film From the Ashes.
From the Ashes is a National Geographic film documenting the complexities of the coal industry. Featured at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival, the film examines this dying industry from all sides to provide the viewer with a deeper understanding of its political, social, economic and ecological impacts. As coal becomes more political under the current administration, it is more important than ever to understand the realities.
ICL is proud to partner with the Sierra Club to sponsor this movie screening and discussion about the coal industry and its effects on communities. Anne Hedges, deputy director and lead lobbyist for the Montana Environmental Information Center and featured in the film, will answer questions and talk about how we move forward from here.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about the energy you pay for. You will also learn how we can take action to move toward a coal-free Idaho while supporting job creation and community transition.
