Even as salmon and steelhead returns to the Columbia and Snake Rivers are at devastatingly low levels, this coming Thursday the U.S. House will consider a bill that would halt efforts to recover Idaho’s wild ocean running fisheries.
U.S. Rep Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) has introduced a bill, HR 3144, intended to overturn two recent decisions by U.S. District Courts that found current recovery plans to be inadequate to save salmon from extinction and in violation of the Endangered Species Act.
If this bill becomes law, it would halt efforts to aid Idaho’s endangered salmon and prevent the agencies from even studying the much needed alternatives. This bill is bad for Idaho, and bad for Idaho’s salmon. Read the full story about the bill and Idaho’s salmon.

Consider these talking points
- Thank your Congressman for not cosponsoring this ill-conceived legislation.
- Ask that he help stop this bill because the status quo is clearly broken, and we need to consider alternatives—which include all reasonable dam management alternatives.
- Restoring endangered fish populations will energize our economy and provide hundreds of millions in economic benefit.
