As the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests update their management plan, you have an opportunity to tell the Forest Service which rivers you believe should be considered wild and scenic and which roadless areas should be considered for wilderness.
Clean, free-flowing rivers are the hallmark of the Clearwater basin. These waters support diverse and abundant fisheries enjoyed by Idaho anglers. Whether it’s a B-run steelhead on the South Fork or a cutthroat on Kelly Creek, the basin’s fisheries would not be so spectacular without its wild rivers.
And what would the Clearwater be without its expansive backcountry? Places like the Mallard-Larkins, Great Burn and Meadow Creek roadless areas offer thousands of miles of recreational trails where visitors find pristine mountain lakes, vistas and canyons.
