Senate Bill 1178 prohibits and penalizes the use of explosive targets during fire season. It’s no secret the Northwest’s fire seasons are getting longer and more intense. This bill will help prevent man-made fires from explosives and flammable targets on public lands during the closed fire season. It would make the consequence of starting a fire using “exploding targets” and “incendiary or tracer ammunition” a misdemeanor in addition to any other cost or punishment imposed.

This bill is a revised version of SB1154. The key difference is the new version removes reference to ammunition (i.e. tracer bullets) and exempts gun ranges.
