Sen. Michelle Stennett (D-Ketchum) introduced a bill that would prohibit the use of exploding targets during the fire season.

Exploding targets literally explode when they are struck with a bullet and have been a known cause of many of Idaho’s largest wildfires. This bill would help prevent human-induced fires and would make any violation of this law a misdemeanor.

Last year, a version of this bill was approved in the Senate, but failed in the House. It does not preclude exploding target use on private lands or on shooting ranges (public or private) that have a permit or government approval.
