Emma Sperry

Climate Fellow

Emma graduated from the University of Chicago in June, 2021 with a J.D. and an M.P.P. Before joining ICL, Emma provided legal assistance to a grassroots organization in Detroit, Michigan that advocates for community solar and reducing low-income energy burdens. Emma also represented a community group at a Superfund site in northwestern Indiana that helped raise awareness surrounding clean-up projects and environmental justice issues.

Emma grew up in a post-industrial and agricultural town in central Indiana. Her passion for protecting the environment arose when she witnessed the effects of environmental degradation on the health and well-being of her community. Despite the environmental challenges faced by her hometown, Emma was fortunate to have spent most of her childhood outside exploring nearby fields and forests. She hopes that her professional work will contribute to a future where all people have access to healthy air, water, food, and outdoor recreation.
